Stella

I have always loved Stella McCartney. She first showed up on my radar when she was Creative Director of the Paris fashion house Chloe. And my opinion of her only went skyward when she started her own label back in 2001. She never fails to please me and her Resort 2012 collection is no exception.

As Style.com said "The clothes here are made to be mixed. McCartney played up the point by combining prints recklessly—Hawaiian with seersucker, houndstooth with deck chair stripe."

I think the images speak for themselves...

Now, if only her clothes were in my price range!

Get Your Kicks

I love dressing for the warmer months. Its easier, less layers to worry about. I especially love that I no longer need to wear socks and boots or closed-toe shoes. My feet can rejoice in summer. They can catch the breeze in a pair of sandals. Barefoot is even more preferable but seriously, I wouldn't dare on New York streets. That's why heading to the beach is a must to feel some sand between my toes.

I have been eyeing off quite a few lovely pairs of summer shoes lately. Most of them seem to be of the platform wedge variety. I have certainly embraced a wedge heel since moving to New York. You do so much walking in this city that I find regular heels a little to hard on the uneven pavement. Wedges have become my best friend when I am looking for a little bit of extra height without face-planting on the pavement (yes, this has happened, twice).

Here are some of my favourite shoes for this summer...

Okay, one pair of closed-toe shoes, just in case. What if I want to ride my bike?

What is your preference, dressing for summer or dressing for winter?

Hydrangeas

The only, and I do mean the only thing that I regret about planning our wedding for October is the fact that I won't be able to have hydrangeas in my bouquet or on the tables. They are one of my favourite flowers. I love them in all their colours and varieties and would have loved to have them incorporated into our special day.

Being in the Hamptons this past weekend only made me more envious as these beautiful shrubs are everywhere.

See look how pretty they are...

My lovely florist has suggested using hellebores, they're not the same thing, but they will work. On the day I am sure I won't even notice the difference!

Inspired By...

Today I am drawing fashion inspiration from the The Virgin Suicides. The movie, directed by Sofia Coppola, tells the story of the five Lisbon sisters who are growing up in the suburbs during the 1970s. A group of boys try to piece together the Lisbon sisters’ story and attempt to learn about the mystique surrounding them.

There is something nostalgic about the way these sisters dressed in muted colours and soft, floaty fabrics. This look is perfect for the hotter summer months when the humidity is high.

Friday is Here Again!

Not only am I excited that it's Friday, I am also heading out to The Hamptons this afternoon for a wedding and summer has officially started here in the Northern hemisphere, we are three days in (if only the rain would go away).

I thought I would celebrate by sharing some of my favourite summer inspired images...

Ahhh, I love this time of year. Enjoy your weekend!

Bathroom Envy

If I could miraculously add square-footage to one room in our apartment it would the bathroom.
It is just big enough to hold our teeny-tiny loo, the shower-over-bath and the free-standing sink.
It has all been nicely renovated by the owner and it is perfectly liveable; as long as Michael and I don't need to get ready at the same time!

But, someday I dream of a bigger bathroom. One with dual sinks, a luxuriously deep bath and a separate large shower. Plus, given the choice I would stick the loo in a room of its own.

Here are some celebrity bathrooms I have been going green with envy over...

Actress Ellen Pompeo’s Hollywood Hills bathroom

Ralph and Ricky Lauren’s Manhattan master bathroom

Actor Anthony Edwards and beauty maven Jeanine Lobell’s Manhattan bathroom

Fashion designer Jill Stuart New York penthouse bathroom

Filmmaker Michael Bay’s Miami Beach home bathroom

The legendary couturier Yves Saint Laurent’s guest bathroom at his Marrakech home

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s Hamptons retreat master bathroom

Maybe one day, probably not while we are living in New York though. One can dream!

To Veil or Not to Veil?

That is the question. With my wedding fast approaching I am nearing crunch time to decide if I want to wear a veil or not. I always thought that I would go sans veil but after trying one on with my dress at my first fitting I am now starting to rethink the veil situation.

Here are my options...

No Veil

Flower

Fascinator

Birdcage Veil

Finger-tip Veil

Lace-edged Veil

Chapel Length Veil

Cathedral Length with Blusher Veil

What do you think, veil or no veil? What did you or do you think you will wear to your wedding?
