Day Dreaming
Here are several things that have been occupying my day dreams lately...
Our Honeymoon in Kauai. We have made a deal that we will go back
every ten years, but do I really have to wait that long?

Springing into Autumn
Images clockwise from top left: asos / Refinery29 / B.Jones Style / Refinery29
I am so excited because this Thursday I am heading back to Australia for the wedding of one of my dearest friends. It will be so nice to be back home and to get to see my family and friends again. I am also very excited that the weather, even though it will be the beginning of Autumn, will be warm, pleasant and spring-like (with lots of sunshine please). Knowing that I will get to bare the legs in warmer weather has turned my attention to what I want to pack and wear for the trip. I am thinking skirts, shorts, light layers and strappy sandals. Hurry up Thursday!

Rainy Friday
Image: Victoria Station
This is what New York looks like this morning, dark and rainy. I feel a little like the city today too. Even though we had a short week, this week has felt really long to me. I think knowing that I am heading back home to Australia for a visit next week has made me check out of New York mentally a little early. Due to the gloomy weather (and my gloomy mood) I thought I would send you off to the weekend with one of my favourite inspirational quotes:

My other favourite is "Don't Worry Be Happy". I think this morning I need to take a dose of that advice. Have a great weekend!

Fashion to Interiors
ELECTRIC BLUE
NEUTRAL
FLORAL
This post reminds me of the saying, "what came first the chicken or the egg?". Are home interior trends influenced by the catwalk or is it the other way around? Either way it is clear to me that fashion and interior trends are often closely aligned, whether it be fabrics, colour palettes, shapes or textures. No matter what came first out of the above trends, they are certainly fashion and interior looks that I am loving.
What about you, do you notice trend overlap in fashion and interiors?

Spring Fling
Jeans: ASOS / Bag: ASOS / Wedges: Forever 21 / Sundress: Topshop
Floral's are everywhere at the moment and even though I am not typically a girlie-girl, I can not wait to wear them! Above are a selection of the current pieces I am loving and when I would wear them. What about you, are you into floral this season?

Tidy Messes
Image: Pinterest
When your apartment isn't much bigger than a hotel room, you really have to find new ways to store all of the stuff that doesn't fit into your closets. Couple that with the fact that I am a complete neat freak and like to keep my messes contained and orderly, and it is safe to assume that my home is filled with storage baskets - which it is.
Never one to stop browsing for things I may or may not need, I am particularly loving the offerings below from West Elm. I may just have to add to my collection.

Hudson Valley, NY
Given that we had a public holiday on Monday (for President's Day), this weekend we took a tour of the Hudson Valley region of New York. We spent Sunday driving slowly up to our accommodation in Rhinebeck (yes, the very town that Chelsea Clinton was married in); stopping at various towns and historical sites in Hyde Park, including Franklin D. Roosevelt's home and the "modest" mansion of Frederick Vanderbilt.
Yesterday we spent another slow drive detouring through other historical sites such as Montgomery Place and Olana (my favourite for its out-of-place yet amazing Middle Eastern design), to the town of Hudson where we stopped for lunch before continuing back to the city in the afternoon. It is such a pretty place, and we are already planning a trip back to see many of the things we missed out on due to the off-season. I also want to go back in Spring and Autumn to see how much the landscape changes. In Spring everything looks green and the gardens are full of colour, and in Autumn you have the amazing reds, oranges and yellows of the fall foliage.
While the weather was clear and sunny the entire time, don't be fooled, it was freezing. The crisp country air made me appreciate that we haven't really had much of a winter this year (and that the city is kept much warmer thanks to the underground steam system). While winter isn't over yet I can not imagine that there will be any more snow other than the small amount we've already had. At least I hope not!

NYFW: It's All In The Details
Images: Tommy Ton on Style.com
Well that is it, New York Fashion Week Fall 2012 has come to and end. I thought that today I would share some of my favourite little details captured during the fashion extravaganza of the week that was. There is one person and place that I favour most for their street style photography; that person is Tommy Ton and the place is Style.com. I love how Ton captures the amazing colour and details in only the best of the best outfits. If there is one thing to take from his beautiful photos, it is that it's the little details that add up to create the best looks.
Have a great weekend!

NYFW: Street Style
One of my favourite things about fashion week is the amazing street style. As a person who loves people watching, street style photographers have made it possible to get a good look at all of the fashionable people without the over-stare that people watching inevitably leads too. There were a lot of really casual looks this fashion week which I have to say is very appealing to me as I tend to be a pretty casual dresser myself. There were also some amazing coats on display, and printed and coloured pants were popular too. In fact I think I may just have to get myself a pair of printed pants this year.
What were some of your favourite looks during New York Fashion Week?

NYFW: Backstage
Derek Lam
Jason Wu
Marc by Marc Jacobs
Peter Som
Rebecca Taylor
Today I thought I would share some of my favourite make-up looks from New York Fashion Week so far. I am not one to shy away from a bright lip so there is no surprise that I love the make-up look on the Marc by Marc Jacobs runway. However, the other looks that I am loving involve a natural lip and a subtly smokey eye; something I am yet to master. Whenever I have tried a smokey eye at home, I always end up looking like I haven't slept for a few days. Given this is such a big make-up trend for Fall 2012 I am determined to make sure I get this look right. Practice makes perfect, or so they say.

Madewell's Spring Preview
Images: Madewell
Given that it is fashion week in New York I have decided to dedicate this entire week to the world of fashion. Today though, I am going to take a break from what is happening on the Fall 2012 runways and focus on what is coming into stores right now. Even though we have had a bit of a cold snap in New York and I can't see myself wearing spring clothes any time soon, it doesn't hurt to get prepared for all of the fashion goodness that the new season will bring.
Case in point, Madewell's lovely spring collection. I am in love. These are the clothes I would have in my closet if I designed them myself. They are casual, fun and flirty and have me dying for skirt weather. Lucky I am off to Australia in a couple of weeks (where the weather is still warm) and will be able to pull my spring wardrobe out early!
Back to regular posting - not just fashion - next week.

NYFW: My Picks From The Weekend
Alexander Wang
Mesh turtlenecks, perfectly tailored cropped pants, buttoned-up coats and glossy knee-high boots made for a more grown up, put-together and luxurious Alexander Wang collection than we have seen in the past.
Diane Von Furstenburg
My selections from the DVF show may show a monochromatic black and white collection, but rest assured there was a beautiful colour palette on show of pink, bordeaux, yellow and raspberry.
Derek Lam
"Thoughtful, quiet, a little more sober", is how Derek Lam described his new collection. With a sixties influence, Lam sent out gorgeous peacoats, pencil skirts and button-downs, and for a more modern vibe paired them with leather and high-tech outerwear.
Thakoon
The silhouettes were exaggerated versions of conservative Audrey Hepburn inspired shapes. Padded hips to accentuate curves, cut-out trenchcoats that were worn as dresses, and boxy black leather added an edge to an otherwise conventional collection.
Victoria Beckham
The streamlined and slimming silhouette at the Victoria Beckham show was in contrast to the sporty edge of much of the collection with the use of polo collars and wide stripes. There was a little military reference too in not only the colour palette but also in the detailing on some of the coats and dresses.

NYFW: Rebecca Taylor
Rebecca Taylor has long been a fashion favourite of mine, and her new Fall 2012 collection did not disappoint. In fact quite the contrary, I am in love with everything. Herringbone coats, peplum blouses and floaty dresses, oh my! I have never wanted to skip through summer before in my life, but do I really have to wait six months to get my hands on all of this gorgeousness?
Have a great weekend!
