Rainy Friday

This is what New York looks like this morning, dark and rainy. I feel a little like the city today too. Even though we had a short week, this week has felt really long to me. I think knowing that I am heading back home to Australia for a visit next week has made me check out of New York mentally a little early. Due to the gloomy weather (and my gloomy mood) I thought I would send you off to the weekend with one of my favourite inspirational quotes:

My other favourite is "Don't Worry Be Happy". I think this morning I need to take a dose of that advice. Have a great weekend!

Snow Day

Well we finally had our first snowfall of the year in New York over the weekend. As much as I wasn't looking forward to it, it was actually pretty great. We had a couple of friends in town from Boston so after a trip to the Guggenheim, we took a stroll through Central Park where the snow was still fresh and clean, instead of dirty slush like around the streets. It was a nice way to work off some of the indulgence that was the rest of our weekend eat-a-thon.

It is moments like these that I really feel so fortunate to be able to live in such an amazing place. To think that only two years ago I had never seen snow and now I have lived through a couple of New York's biggest snow falls on record. Granted this weekend's snowfall wasn't much (and I'm glad about that), but it is nice to feel like a bit of an old hand in such conditions. Even if I don't feel so glamorous in my practical (definitely not fashionable) North Face down-filled coat!

Layering Against the Cold

Today is expected to be cold, I mean really cold. So cold that for the next two days the temperature is not supposed to reach above freezing. That is actually normal for this time of year, but when we have been so spoilt with such a mild winter so far, it is hard to remember how to dress for these temperatures.

I am determined not to pull out my down-filled coat  until it snows, which I believe it will soon. So in the meantime I am planning to wear lots of layers to beat the chill.
