Mini & Me

I hope you had a great weekend. We did, we spent lots of time outdoors and enjoyed the sunshine. It wasn't the warmest of weekends but it was still nice enough to get outside. I am dreaming of the hot sweaty days that are just around the corner. I love summer!

Have a great week.

Things I Love About Spring

Images from Pinterest

1. Busting out bare legs for the first time.
2. Summery pasta dishes.
3. Flowers of all kinds (how gorgeous are these dahlias?).
4. Bye bye socks, hello bright flats.
5. Sangria, refreshing and delicious.

Mini & Me

Sorry for the silence last week, we had a rough one around here. Olivia, Michael and I have all had colds and I know I felt lousy so can only imagine how my poor little chicken felt. It's really the first time that she's ever had a true fever too, so the poor little thing hasn't been herself. We had some cooler weather again (it even snowed), so at least when we stayed in I didn't feel like our days were wasted.

I am really hoping that summer is just around the corner though. So much so that summer clothes are all I can think about...even if I can't wear them just yet!

Have a great week.

Mini & Me

MINI: J.Crew Swimsuit, GAP Romper & Sandals // ME: Joe Fresh Dress, Madewell Hat & Tote, J.Crew Sandals

While it rained most of the weekend in New York, it still felt more like Spring to me than it has in months. It got me thinking about the warmer days ahead....and of course how I plan to dress for them. I'm never one to back away from a nautical stripe so it's no surprise that a stripe dress is high on my wishlist this season. I also thought it would be fun to think about what Olivia will be wearing as the weather heats up too. After all, it is way more fun dressing her than myself!

Have a great week.

Dressing the Bump

Striped Dresses

Camel with Denim

Grey Sweater Dresses

While I am not quite the size of the ladies pictured above just yet, I can't help but think ahead to how I will dress my bump as we head toward Fall in New York. I have grand plans to avoid maternity clothes for as long as I can (although I'm not completely adverse to it), so I want to wear things from my own wardrobe and stretch them out (literally) for as long as I can. The above looks are perfectly achievable and completely stylish, whether you are pregnant or not.

Have a great weekend!

Summer Dresses...With Room to Grow

1 / 2 / 3 / 4

I have noticed now that my belly is starting to pop, that most of my summer dresses are waisted. That just isn't working for me and my rapidly growing midsection. So I have done some research and found some gorgeous dresses to help get me through this awkward phase of pregnancy and through to the end of summer. The four dresses above are at the top of my wishlist (and the Zara one is already on it's way to me).

Have a great weekend!

Her Look // Your Way

Anthropologie Sleeveless Shirt / J.Crew Earrings / Lowie Skinny Belt /
Citizens of Humanity Hudson Jeans / Oasis Plaited Sandals

With summer in the air an all white look is a fresh way re-think a summer outfit. Simply pair your favourite white jeans with a loose summery blouse. Add some neutral accessories, or why not be bold and go for a hint of orange. Top it off with a swipe of orange lipstick and you are good to go!

Her Look // Your Way

I am loving this classic look I found on Pinterest. Such an easy look to pull together but oh so chic. For one of those days when you just can't decide what else to wear, throw on a pair of jeans and a button-down, add a swipe of red lipstick and finish with your largest pair of sunglasses. Voila, très chic.

Colour Crush

The colour yellow, so sunny and optimistic. I love all shades from canary to lemon to neon and back again. There are so many variations of this colour that I would love to add to both my wardrobe and my home at the moment. I would particularly love the yellow dress in the top right image, if only I knew where I could get one. Is yellow a colour that you want to add to your wardrobe/home this summer?

Distressed

1 / 2

I have been really loving the relaxed, cropped and distressed jeans I have been seeing since fashion week in New York. So inspired I have been, that I decided to turn my old boyfriend jeans (that I rarely wear out of the house) into a pair. I am really pleased with the results and feel like I have given an old pair of jeans a new life and maybe another season in my wardrobe.

I made my version in four easy steps:

1. Measure how long you want your jeans to be. I determined this based on where I thought the length was the most flattering on my ankle (as I don't have a very defined ankle to begin with). Then mark the length with a ruler to ensure you have a straight line.

2. Using fabric scissors, cut at the line you have just marked.

3. Using a wire brush (I used a suede brush), brush the edge of the cut hem to loosen some of the threads and create a distressed look. There are so many other ways to do this that you can find on Google, but I like the frayed edge to be not too extreme so this gave me the perfect amount of distressing.

4. Trim the frayed edges to your desired length. Again, I don't like the frayed edge to be to too extreme, so I left about 1cm of frayed edge at the end.

You're now ready to wear!

LBD

1 / 2 / 3 / 4

I am on the lookout for a little black dress. I have never owned one, which is a cardinal sin in the wardrobe rule book. I don't want one that is too dressy, but I need one that can be dressed up if necessary. I want my LBD to be a staple in my wardrobe that can be pulled out whenever I am stuck for something to wear, and make me feel like a million dollars. I found these dresses on Pinterest and they are close to what I am looking for, but I must admit the search continues for the perfect one. Any suggestions of where to shop are appreciated, and in the meantime I will keep looking!

White Hot

White jeans, now here is a trend I have always loved on others but was never confident enough to try at home. However, facing my third summer in the United States, I felt it was time to shake off my insecurities and give white jeans a chance. I got a pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans and I have to say I think I am converted. They are a slightly warmer white than the bright whites sold by most other brands, they have just enough stretch (2% to be exact), and aren't at all transparent (a big fear of mine).

Now I have taken the leap into white jean territory, I have been scouring the internet for different ways to wear them. I am a casual girl at heart but I love how Kate Moss and Sienna Miller paired theirs with a charcoal blazer to take the look to the next level. My favourite look though is Kate Bosworth's, now all I need to do is find a printed silk tee and I will be on my way to rocking white jeans in style.

Pastel Dream

1. Hudson Jeans / 2. Girl. by Band of Outsiders Jacket
3. Essie Nail Polish in Looking for Love  / 4. Zara Heels
5. Zara Lace Top & Shorts / 6. Coach Handbag

Inspired by all of the beautiful pastel looks I have been seeing lately, I thought I would dedicate today's post to all of the sherbet shades I am loving for spring/summer. The above picture of a stunning sunrise (or is it a sunset, I'm not sure?) captures every shade of pastel that I am planning to wear as the weather heats up. They are pale perfection!

Fresh Pairing

Images: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9

No two colours go together quite as well as navy and white. It is one of the freshest combinations I can think of. It makes me think of fresh ocean air and crisp clean sheets. There is no denying that I am drawn to this colour combination in all of its variations (especially nautical stripes). I would love to have a house full of lovely navy and white china like the bottom right image, and there is already no shortage of this combination in my wardrobe! What colour combination speaks most to you?

Vintage Denim, Two Ways

LOOK ONE: Rayban Aviators / Madewell Dress / Gap Belt / Mia Flats
LOOK TWO: Bauble Bar Necklace / J.Crew Dress / Sam Edelman Sandals

I have had the same denim jacket for over ten years. There was a period of about three years in there, that it went unworn, but I could never bear to throw it out. It is so soft and perfectly worn in. Now denim jackets, and particularly vintage ones, are back on the scene I am so glad that I still have my old faithful in the wardrobe. I pulled it out for the first time this year and wore it with my forest green jeans. But since the weather is only getting warmer I have been pondering some other ways to wear it as well. These are a couple of my favourite looks, which show just how versatile the humble denim jacket can be.

Day Dreaming

Here are several things that have been occupying my day dreams lately...

Our Honeymoon in Kauai. We have made a deal that we will go back
every ten years, but do I really have to wait that long?

Springing into Autumn

Images clockwise from top left: asos / Refinery29B.Jones Style / Refinery29

I am so excited because this Thursday I am heading back to Australia for the wedding of one of my dearest friends. It will be so nice to be back home and to get to see my family and friends again. I am also very excited that the weather, even though it will be the beginning of Autumn, will be warm, pleasant and spring-like (with lots of sunshine please). Knowing that I will get to bare the legs in warmer weather has turned my attention to what I want to pack and wear for the trip. I am thinking skirts, shorts, light layers and strappy sandals. Hurry up Thursday!

Fashion to Interiors

ELECTRIC BLUE

NEUTRAL

FLORAL

This post reminds me of the saying, "what came first the chicken or the egg?". Are home interior trends influenced by the catwalk or is it the other way around? Either way it is clear to me that fashion and interior trends are often closely aligned, whether it be fabrics, colour palettes, shapes or textures. No matter what came first out of the above trends, they are certainly fashion and interior looks that I am loving.

What about you, do you notice trend overlap in fashion and interiors?
