Belated Birthday Wishes

This week It Started in New York turned one! I seemed to have missed this fact in my jet-lag fog on Wednesday but now I am feeling much more clear headed I thought I better give my blog its dues. I started writing It Started in New York as a way to occupy myself and do something creative. I was never sure where it would lead me, and I'm still not sure where it's going, but I very much enjoy writing it all the same.

Thank you to you, my lovely readers, for reading my blog over the past year and for all the lovely comments you leave. Some of the kind messages I get honestly make my day, and certainly make continuing to write all the more worthwhile.

Fresh Pairing

No two colours go together quite as well as navy and white. It is one of the freshest combinations I can think of. It makes me think of fresh ocean air and crisp clean sheets. There is no denying that I am drawn to this colour combination in all of its variations (especially nautical stripes). I would love to have a house full of lovely navy and white china like the bottom right image, and there is already no shortage of this combination in my wardrobe! What colour combination speaks most to you?

Flowers, Flowers, Everywhere

Images: 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5

With the warm weather we have been having, I thought I would continue on the spring theme I seem to have been leaning towards this week. Today, lets talk about flowers! I love flowers, as those of you who read this blog regularly can attest to. As such, when spring starts each year, I get so excited about all of the beautiful blooms on sale and in the gardens. I love mixing them up and rarely get the same ones more than twice in a row.

I have been pinning lots of beautiful bouquets on Pinterest in preparation for spring time and the above images are some of my favourites. Although for me, nothing beats the simple ranunculus and hydrangea bunches, they are both my absolute favourites.

Vintage Denim, Two Ways

LOOK ONE: Rayban Aviators / Madewell Dress / Gap Belt / Mia Flats
LOOK TWO: Bauble Bar Necklace / J.Crew Dress / Sam Edelman Sandals

I have had the same denim jacket for over ten years. There was a period of about three years in there, that it went unworn, but I could never bear to throw it out. It is so soft and perfectly worn in. Now denim jackets, and particularly vintage ones, are back on the scene I am so glad that I still have my old faithful in the wardrobe. I pulled it out for the first time this year and wore it with my forest green jeans. But since the weather is only getting warmer I have been pondering some other ways to wear it as well. These are a couple of my favourite looks, which show just how versatile the humble denim jacket can be.

Floral Invasion

Images 1, 2, 3 & 4

With spring well and truly in the air I am finding myself drawn to floral's everywhere. I am particularly loving spring inspired wallpapers. While renting means that we can't go adding wallpaper to our current apartment, it never hurts to get inspired for when we are home owners one day.

I love all the shades of blue and green in the above images. It is so fresh and surprisingly clean given the complete print overload. I particularly love the bathroom in the third image with the wallpaper contrasting against the white wainscoting. I also adore the first image with the floral walls and striped bed linen. Actually, who am I kidding, I love them all! What about you?

Back in Town

Images taken from the Highline Park in Chelsea.

Well I am back from two weeks in Australia and I am very sorry for the complete lack of posting in my absence. I went away with the best intentions of posting at least a couple of times each week, but alas, I had too much fun catching up with my friends and family so my blog was left by the wayside!

We were welcomed back into the city yesterday by the most beautiful sunny weather to help lift us out of our jet-lag fog. We had no sleep on the flight back home and I am seriously considering writing a firm letter to Qantas regarding why they think it is okay to serve the equivalent of a least 10 drinks to a woman who was clearly drunk before she even boarded the plane. Not happy.

Anyway, a lovely walk on the Highline helped to bring us back from the brink and it is great to be back in New York City. There are exciting times ahead!

Dinner for Two

Image: Ellen Silverman for My Father's Daughter by Gwyneth Paltrow

Last night we had fish tacos for dinner. Fish tacos are something that I had never eaten before I moved to New York (hello, El Paso mince tacos anyone?), but now I am addicted and I know it will be a regular meal for us for a long long time. In the past we have used a great recipe from this book, but this time around we used Gwyneth Paltrow's recipe with all the accoutrements, and it came out on top. So delicious!

We made the slightly healthier grilled fish version rather than the deep fried ones pictured above (which I am sure are even better). And because we both like a bit of heat, I added a finely diced jalapeno chilli to the salsa which gave the meal just the kick it needed. It was my last supper before I head to Australia so I apologise in advance if my posting becomes a little sporadic over the next couple of weeks! Adios!
